Update on Nina, Phooey, and more

March 23, 2023

Dear Friends and Family,

Did you get to see Princess Phooey when it was live on TADA!’s stage in February? If not, you can watch it now. Purchase a ticket and watch the stream by clicking here. I’m so happy to report that it was the first production since COVID in which we were able to do the full run of the show! We ended up playing to 82% capacity. The 26 cast members were split between new and returning RYET members. We also welcomed many new staff members: Musical Director, Choreographer, Costume and Lighting Designers, Stage Manager and Assistant Stage Manager. And it was the first time Alum, Ceanna Bryant worked as Assistant Director. We’re very happy that 60% of our staff and 65% of the actors were BIPOC.

On May 22, TADA! will have its first live fundraising event since COVID. TADA!’s Spring Party celebrating our 39th Birthday will take place at Hill Country Barbeque from 6:30-8:30pm. RYET members will perform and there will be a live auction, food, and drinks. We hope you will be able to join us.

Also, TADA!’s school break camps are finally back this year. There’s still time to register for the April school break camp and registration is also open for TADA!’s amazing musical theater weeklong summer camps. In July, Everything About Camp (almost) will run for 23 performances.

On a personal note, the last year has been a tough one for me healthwise. Things got slightly worse when I suffered from 2 mini strokes at the closing party of Princess Phooey. I can’t believe my body is so in sync with what is needed at TADA! that it waited until the show closed, and I had some time off. Luckily, I am not suffering any physical or mental effects from the strokes. I was in the hospital for a week, and I received a diagnosis of congestive heart failure. This is very scary to hear and emotionally it’s taking me time to process. I am taking a lot of medication and now on a low salt and low fluid diet. For someone who devoured potato chips on a daily basis this is very difficult. The doctors believe that the heart issues are related to the radiation I had over 30 years ago as a treatment for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Cancer is the gift that keeps on giving. Supposedly both the breast cancer and lung cancer I had a few years back are also the result of the Hodgkin’s treatment. I am working part-time right now and expect to be back full-time in a few months.

I will write again soon.

Best,
