Our Unique Programming Sets Us Apart

Our Unique Programming Sets Us Apart

For more than 40 years, TADA! has offered year-round classes and camps at our onsite location as well as in-school residencies and after-school programming in both public and private schools across New York City.

Musical theater and storytelling are the cornerstones of our work with young people. These art forms provide the foundation of our signature curricula, combining the process of exploring musical theater skills, the power of student voice, and the magic of performance!

We offer diverse curricula that vary by program and location, and we can also create custom curriculums to meet the needs of your community.

TADA Youth Theater unique programming

Our two signature programs are our most popular:

  • Skill-building: This program balances the process of skills development in the areas of singing, dancing, and acting with the joy of musical theater. All classes culminate in a final sharing where students present musical numbers showcasing skills learned in the program from various Broadway hits and TADA! original productions in a cabaret-style showcase.
  • Play-building: This program combines musical theater training, storytelling, character development, and student voice. Using a show title as inspiration, students devise their own original mini-musical as an ensemble. All classes culminate in a final performance where students perform their very own mini-musical for a live audience.

All TADA! programs are based in ensemble-building techniques that facilitate an active, equitable, and inclusive learning environment where cooperative, personal, and creative growth are fostered in a structured and supportive setting. TADA! Education is rooted in the core belief that we are better together.

Frequently Asked Questions Area
Do you offer school pick-up or late after-care for afternoon classes?

Yes! Our shorter summer camp days and optional after-care provide more flexibility, lower tuition, and schedule support to make summer work better for every family. Pick-up is available at 3:30 or 5:15 — it’s up to you!

For our after-school musical theater classes, a staff member is always onsite to supervise if a caregiver is running a few minutes late. Your child’s safety and comfort are our top priorities.

Do you offer "Trial Classes" before committing to a full semester?

With so many performing arts after-school programs in NYC, it can be hard to know which is the best fit for your child. That’s why we offer multiple open houses throughout the year, featuring a sample class for kids and a Q&A session for parents. The $25 fee goes toward your total tuition if you decide to register.

What are your safety and staff screening protocols?

All of our professional teaching artists go through a rigorous interview process and are required to complete a background check. We always have two adults in the room with students, and safety procedures are regularly reviewed with our entire staff to ensure a secure, supportive environment for kids in NYC.

Do you offer financial aid or sibling discounts?

Yes! TADA! Youth Theater is committed to Arts for All, making it one of the most affordable youth theaters in NYC. We provide access to students from all backgrounds, including those facing economic hardship. This includes offering financial aid and limited full scholarships for classes and camps, pay-what-you-can tickets to our youth theater productions, discounted tickets for non-profits, and our FREE Resident Youth Ensemble program. Financial aid applications are reviewed on a rolling basis at the end of each month.

How long are the camps and classes? Do they extend over an entire season?

Our semester-long classes run 10–13 weeks, while our summer camps and school-break week-long camps run 5 days, Monday–Friday. Each week features a unique, fun, and exciting theme. This year, summer runs June 15–September 4, so families can mix and match the weeks that work best for their schedules.

TADA! Teaching Artists

Teaching Artists are at the heart of our work; empowering, educating, and inspiring young people through the magic of musical theater. Our education program are usually team-taught by a pair of Teaching Artists; a Director/Choreographer and a Music Director that work together modeling adult collaboration and offering students multiple approaches to the creative process. With two artists/educators in the space, students receive individualized attention tailored to their learning style and needs.

All of our Teaching Artists are highly-skilled musical theater artists and educators trained in TADA!’s pedagogy. Each year, we audition and interview the best of the best in NYC. Teaching Artists are evaluated using a responsive rubric based on our TADA! Teaching Artists Competencies, which evolve each year to ensure we are serving and supporting the changing needs of our students, schools, and community.

As an antiracist and multicultural organization, we value and amplify the voices, imaginations, knowledge, cultures, artistry, and leadership of BIPOC individuals. We’re proud of the talented and dedicated Teaching Artists who make TADA! what it is today, and as we grow we’re deepening our commitment to ensuring that out TA community more fully reflects the diversity of our students so that every young person can see themselves represented in the mentors who inspire them.
